The service we offer includes dusting, cleaning and all treatments that serve to prevent and remove from books all causes of deterioration and alteration.
Atmospheric dust comes from the immediate surroundings and settles on library collections because of layers of air in movement and slow, subsequent overlaps; this dust also has a content of chemical and biological agents, which can destroy books and be harmful to human health.
Hence the need to periodically remove dust from books and furniture by appropriate means.
Tirrenia S.r.l. is able to offer a careful and tested dusting service in archives, libraries and institutes of Conservation.
The intervention is done on site by qualified personnel using both mechanical systems, and specific methodologies, depending on the conditions and types of printed material.
The volumes that are in a precarious state of conservation are dusted by hand with special soft bristle brushes made from horse hair, inside a special hood equipped with HEPA filters with an efficiency of 99.7% of particles from 0.3 microns.
The hood is also equipped with additional filter clogging, thus avoiding contaminating the surrounding environment.
The volumes in good condition are dusted mechanically by using the DEPULVERA system, prepared with soft bristle brushes made from horsehair, and fitted with HEPA filter, to prevent the removed dust from dispersing into the environment.
Room cleaning is also carried out with special products, and dusting furniture with the use of anti-static cloths and industrial vacuum cleaners equipped with HEPA filters.
At the end of all operations of dust removal, volumes are then carefully relocated, according to indications of Librarians, on to the racks of origin.
